Regulation (EC) No 1921/2006 — rules for the systematic production of EU statistical data on landings of fishery products

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THIS REGULATION?

It aims to ensure a uniform, Europe-wide method for the collection and compiling of statistical data on fishery products landed on national territories. These statistics are an important tool of the common fisheries policy which has set catch limits designed to be sustainable and to help ensure the long-term maintainance of fish stocks.

It repeals Regulation (EEC) No 1382/91.

KEY POINTS

  Each year, each EU country must submit data to the European Commission (Eurostat) on fishery products landed on its territory by vessels registered (or flying the flag) in an EU or an EFTA country.
• - 

  The data cover total landings on the national territory within the EU.
• - 

  The data relate to the total quantities and unit values* of the fishery products landed in the calendar year.
• - 

  The format, variables and codes for submitting the data are set out in annexes to the regulation.

FROM WHEN DOES THE REGULATION APPLY?

It applies from 19 January 2007.

KEY TERMS

Unit value: the value of the sale of the fishery products divided by the quantity or, for fishery products not immediately sold, the average price per tonne, estimated using an appropriate method.
