• 1. 

  On 26 January 2017, the Commission submitted to the Council a proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 2011/65 i/EU on the

restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment .

• 2. 

  The present proposal, which is based on Article 114 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, does not require the opinion of the Committee of the Regions.

• 3. 

  However, given the scope of the proposed Directive which is to amend the scope of

  Directive 2011/65 i/EU that aims at preventing barriers to trade and the distortion of competition in the EU regarding the use of hazardous substances electrical and electronic

equipment and on which the Committee of the Regions was consulted 2 , it seems appropriate

to consult the Committee of the Regions also on the amending Directive.

• 4. 

  The Committee of the Permanent Representatives is therefore invited to decide, in accordance

  with Article 19(7)(h) of the Council's Rules of Procedure 3 , to consult the Committee of the

Regions on the above proposal and ask it to give its opinion at its earliest convenience.
