A month ago, a new European Parliament was elected. On Wednesday, 15 July, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt i travels to Strasbourg to present the Swedish EU Presidency’s priorities to the newly elected Parliament.

The emphasis will be on the two greatest challenges the Swedish Presidency will have to face during its six months in charge – climate change and the economic crisis.

“Close and constructive cooperation between the Swedish Presidency and the European Parliament is essential in order to be able to meet the autumn’s challenges”, says Reinfeldt.

In his speech, the Prime Minister will focus particularly on the climate issue and the economic crisis, but also on other issues that will be of interest this autumn, issues such as cooperation in the area of justice, the transition to a new Treaty and the Baltic Sea Strategy, which is to give us a safer and cleaner sea.

“I will talk about Sweden’s role in Europe, the importance of European leadership on the climate issue and that working together makes us stronger”, says Fredrik Reinfeldt.

The Prime Minister’s speech will be webcast live on the Presidency website starting at 10.15 on Wednesday, 15 July.
