The Lisbon Treaty has been in force since 1 December 2009, but many of the new features still need to be worked out. Throughout the spring and early summer of 2010, the European Journalism Centre (EJC), in co-operation with the European Commission, is organising a series of seminars for journalists from the European Union\'s member states on how the Lisbon Treaty is changing the EU.

This seminar, specifically tailored for journalists from regional media in the 27 EU member states, will take place in Brussels on 27-28 May 2010.

Some of the key issues to be addressed are:

  • How are Herman Van Rompuy and Catherine Ashton doing in their new positions?
  • Will the creation of the European External Action Service (EEA) make the EU a truly global player?
  • How will the Citizens Initiative work in practice?
  • Citizens\' rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights: what areas will be strengthened?
  • Are the Members of the European Parliament up to the challenge of their stronger role in the EU decision making process?

Speakers at this briefing will range from EU civil servants and policy-makers to experienced EU correspondents and experts from Brussels-based think-tanks.

The seminar will be conducted in English. Travel, accommodation and some meals are covered by the organisers.

If you are interested in this seminar, please register and apply online at www.ejcseminars.eu or contact Christina Romero at romero@ejc.net or phone +32 2 235 22 52.
