The Lisbon Treaty has been in force since 1 December 2009 but many of the new features still need to be worked out. Throughout the spring and early summer of 2010, the European Journalism Centre (EJC), in co-operation with the European Commission, is organising a series of seminars for journalists from the European Union's member states on how the Lisbon Treaty is changing the EU and how it will work in the future.

This seminar, specifically tailored for regional audiovisual journalists, will take place in Brussels on the 14-15 June 2010.

Some of the key issues to be addressed are:

  • Have Herman Van Rompuy i and Catherine Ashton i made a good start in their new positions?
  • Will the creation of the European External Action Service (EEA) make the EU a truly global player?
  • How will the Citizens Initiative work in practice?
  • Citizens\' rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. What areas will be strengthened?
  • Are our Members of the European Parliament up to the challenge of their stronger role in the EU decision making process?

Speakers at this briefing will range from EU high ranking officials and policy makers to experts from Brussels-based think-tanks and experienced EU correspondents.

The seminar will be conducted in English. Travel, accommodation and some meals are covered by the organisers.
