The news:

On 12 April 2010, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Commission will hold a high-level conference on financial integration and stability in the aftermath of the financial crisis. It will be hosted by the ECB in Frankfurt and will provide an opportunity for financial market participants, policymakers and academics to engage in a debate on the implications of the financial crisis for the integration and stability of European and international financial markets. The ECB will release and discuss its latest "Financial Integration in Europe" report and the Commission will present the 2009 edition of its annual "European Financial Integration Report".

This conference will feature keynote addresses, policy reports and panel discussions. It will be divided into four sessions:

  • Presentation of ECB/Commission policy reports
  • High-level policy panel
  • Research presentations
  • Academic panel

Keynote speakers include:

  • Michel Barnier - Internal Market and Services Commissioner
  • Jean-Claude Trichet - President, European Central Bank
  • Jaime Caruana - General Manager, Bank for International Settlements

The background:

This conference provides the Commission and the ECB with the opportunity to share and discuss their views on the integration and stability of the financial markets with policy makers, regulators, academics and representatives of private financial institutions. This annual event is organised alternatively in Frankfurt and in Brussels.

The Commission's 2009 "European Financial Integration Report" focused on the financial crisis and the first signs of recovery. It analyses the impact of the crisis on EU financial integration and provides a background to the EU's reform agenda for building a stronger financial system together with its major international partners.

The ECB's 2010 "Financial Integration in Europe" report focuses on issues related to the ECB's core tasks and on developments relating to the euro area; the state of play of financial integration and its relationship with integration and supervisory reform, post-trading, stability and Eurosystem activities.

The event:

High-level conference at the European Central Bank premises, Frankfurt, Germany. Attendance is by invitation only.

  • The conference will be available through webstreaming on the ECB site from 10h00 to 12h30. Link to be announced.
  • Available on EbS
