The news:

Prominent policy-makers, academics and journalists will meet at the European Parliament in Brussels to examine the impact of the Treaty of Lisbon on the European Union.

The background:

The Global Jean Monnet Conference is organised by the European Commission. Every two years, the Commission invites the world-wide network of European Community Studies Associations (ECSA-World) to join the event.

Commission President Barroso will deliver the keynote opening speech and Commissioner Vassiliou will present the 2010 Jean Monnet Prize to an academic for special achievement in European integration studies.

The Jean Monnet Programme constitutes a network of top-level professors at universities in 62 countries across the five continents. It has facilitated global dialogue and provided policy guidance to the European Commission on numerous occasions in the past.
