On 13 June, the 4th SECOT Awards for Excellence took place in Madrid, to give recognition to the valuable work carried out by SECOT volunteers and members in business counselling to entrepreneurs, small businesses and non-profits with limited economic resources.

SECOT (Spanish Seniors for Technical Cooperation) is a non-profit association whose volunteers are retired qualified professionals, early retirees or active senior citizens with an altruistic spirit, who wish to offer their expertise in business management to those in need.

The winners in each category were:

  • Most Notable Advisory Project: Francisco Mestre, Valencia Delegation Senior, for his work in the opening of an Optician's in the city of Valencia, Spain.
  • Most Outstanding SECOT Senior: René Aga, for his involvement and dedication to the Association, after eleven years of membership with SECOT.
  • Excellent Delegation: Delegation of Barcelona, for its excellence in management and organization.

During the event, César Gallo (Vice President of the Repsol Foundation)- emphasized the importance of the senior counselling work and their contribution in covering a number of gaps and needs in society, as well as their promotion of social development: “The experience, knowledge and skills that seniors have acquired throughout their professional and personal lives, make this group a key element in the development of activities and initiatives that promote economic and business development, and what's more, these contributions are voluntary and selfless.”
