A range of Environment and Energy topics are the focus of the Irish Presidency over the course of this week. Take a look at some of the events taking place in Dublin around the Informal meeting of EU Environment and Energy Ministers.
4th European Conference on Renewable Heating and Cooling
Monday 22 - Tuesday 23 April
The roadmap to realising the potential of Renewable Heating and Cooling at both EU and national level is the focus of this conference. Around 200 participants from all over Europe are expected to discuss cutting-edge renewable heating and cooling technology solutions, policy measures and learn the latest industry trends.
The programme places the spotlight on the new Strategic Research Agenda and the session’s conference delegates will have the opportunity to participate in defining which projects are best suited to the its implementation. The full programme contains information on what you can expect in Dublin, including speakers, technical site visits and an exhibition dedicated to the projects funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
The event is an associated event of the Irish Presidency supported by the European Commission. It takes place in the Convention Centre Dublin, the world’s first carbon neutral constructed convention centre which is committed to long-term environment sustainability.
Wednesday 24 April
Better Building, Ireland's largest property and construction conference is to be held in Croke Park. It brings together the entire property and construction industry, including estate agents, investors, architects, engineers and contractors to look at the opportunities and challenges for greening the built environment, The programme covers topics such as green real estate, passive house standard, innovations and green materials. The theme of Ireland’s largest sustainable property and construction conference is ‘Leading Environmental Innovation in Europe’. To tie in with the Irish Presidency of the EU there will be a European emphasis to the event with updates on EU policy and presentations on best practice polices from around Europe.
Speakers at the event include Philip Lowe, the EU's most senior policy maker on energy, Ronan Lyons, Economist and author of the Daft Report, Thomas Mueller, CEO of the Canada Green Building Council, and Olivier Rapf, Director General of the Building Performance Institute of Europe.

Innovation at Work: Learning from Ireland's experience
Wednesday 24 April
At this event, leading energy figures will outline the challenges in advance of the Informal meeting of the Council of Energy Ministers. It will showcase energy innovation in Ireland in areas such as: renewable energy; smart grids; the electrification of heating and transport; and will highlight the challenge these innovations pose for EU energy policy-makers. Geography and the structure of greenhouse gas emission in Ireland’s economy, place it uniquely at the forefront of the many technical challenges of implementing EU energy and climate policy. Today’s issues for Ireland will also be those of the rest of Europe over the coming decade. Ireland’s practical experiences with renewables integration and the electrification of heating and transport hold important policy lessons for EU members.
