Jennifer Baker is joined by James Holtum, spokesperson for the ECR Group, to discuss the necessity of country of origin labelling for processed meat.

Country of origin labelling is already being applied to fresh, chilled and frozen meat. However, in wake of the horse meat scandal there is a clear need to extend these rules to processed meat as well, underlines Holtum. The Parliament’s Environment Committee will vote on a resolution urging the Commission to propose new legislation regarding the country of origin labelling for processed meat on Wednesday 21 January. According to the ECR spokesperson, the main concern remains high labelling costs which would disproportionately burden business.
