Annual and multi-annual programming and the revision of the 2003 Inter-institutional agreement on "Better Law making", which aims to simplify and improve the regulatory environment, will be discussed by the Conference of Presidents (EP President and political group leaders) and Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans i on Thursday at around 11.00.

Before the Commission finalises its proposal for revising the Inter-Instututional agreement, groups’ leaders invited Mr Timmermans to discuss how to improve working relations between Parliament, Commission and Council and legislative outcomes. Parliament will push for realistic and reliable annual and multiannual programming and for transparent and democratic EU decision-making procedures.

Ensuring that EU legislation is fit for purpose and creates favourable conditions for economic development and the well-being of EU citizens is the overall objective of Better law-making., The current Inter-institutional agreement, adopted in 2003, needs to be revised. It should take account of the new legislative environement created by the Lisbon Treaty, as Members of Parliament have repeatedly stressed in recent years.
