On 9 June, Latvian Finance Minister Jānis Reirs will lead the most important cohesion policy event during the Latvian Presidency - the informal meeting of Ministers responsible for Cohesion Policy. During the meeting, the Ministers will discuss the reformed cohesion policy issues related to more intensive use of financial instruments and the strengthening of administrative capacity. These are a couple of the most essential preconditions to succeed in the new EU funds programming period 2014-2020.

“It is possible to successfully implement the reformed cohesion policy if all of the involved partners, especially the Member States and the European Commission, will cooperate. Therefore, it is very important to strengthen good governance and increase the successful use of financial instruments in the new programming period. We must ensure that every single invested euro has the greatest possible added value to the whole EU economy,  says Jānis Reirs.

Discussions on territorial and urban development will be continued on 10 June at the informal meeting of ministers lead by Latvian Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development Kaspars Gerhards. For the first time, ministers will have the opportunity to discuss the EU Urban Agenda and to agree on its basic elements at a political level.
