The purpose of the workshop is to provide information to the Members of the ENVI Committee about the effects of pesticides, focus on glyphosate, on human health. Glyphosate has been recently classified as “probable human carcinogen” by the international Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the WHO. By the contrary, the EFSA published a report in 2015 that concludes that the glyphosate it is unlikely to produce carcinogenic effect.
To clarify the situation, the aim of the workshop is to raise awareness and open a debate on this issue. It will offer a balanced picture of the variety of views seriously considered among professionals within the whole of the European Union. Based on that, the workshop will cover: the toxicology of pesticides, national laws, current legislation in the EU, the right of patients and others".
