The EU-ESA informal space ministerial meeting will focus on the future viewpoints regarding Earth Observation in Europe after 2020.

During the EU-ESA informal space ministerial meeting, participants will discuss the future of the Copernicus Space programme in the years 2020+. Topics of the ministerial meeting include the Copernicus data policy, how the EU should successfully adapt to the changing global environment with paradigm shifts taking place in digital/big data technologies, and private actors taking an ever-larger role in the global Earth Observation scene. Participants will also discuss which EU policy priorities Copernicus should contribute to in the years of 2020 and beyond.

Lunch Debate - Policy Implications of Global Paradigm Shifts in Earth Observation

The lunch debate concentrates on Copernicus Space data policy in view of the paradigm shifts in digital/big data technologies and in business models, calling for the realignment of existing principles and modes of public sector intervention.

Working Session - The Future of the Copernicus Programme in Fostering a Competitive and Innovation European Space Sector

The Working Session focuses on policy priorities into which Copernicus can contribute in the years 2020+, and the corresponding shifts in data policy and governance models in order to meet the needs of existing and new services/users. Ministers will also be invited to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to capitalising on public investment while maximising the opportunities for stimulating further investments into East Observation capacities in Europe by helping to integrate EU, national and commercial assets and establishing new partnership models with member states, industry and international players.

Ests voorzitterschap Europese Unie 2e helft 2017

Van 1 juli tot en met 31 december 2017 vervulde Estland i het voorzitterschap i van de Raad van de Europese Unie i. Estland was de opvolger van Malta i. Het was de eerste keer dat dit land het voorzitterschap bekleedde. Belangrijke prioriteiten voor Estland waren de interne markt en de digitale interne markt in het bijzonder, de energie-unie en de verdere integratie van Oost-Europese landen in de Europese Unie. Ook wilde Estland tijdens het voorzitterschap online oplossingen en informatievoorziening in het Europees beleid promoten.

Het thema van het Ests voorzitterschap was "Unity through Balance". Er was veel aandacht voor de relatie van de mens met de natuur en voor de uitdagingen en mogelijkheden die nieuwe technologieën met zich meebrengen.
