    Opening statements by :

    • Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of the European Committee of the Regions
    • Margarete Schramböck, Austrian Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs

Under the priorities of the "Single Market", "Investing in the future" or "Digital Europe ", the current 18-month Programme of the Council (1 July 2017 - 31 December 2018), places much focus on investment in growth and jobs, including cross-border infrastructure, encouraging mobility and facilitating connectivity. The Austrian Presidency emphasises in this respect the importance of cross-border connectivity.

Connectivity is, indeed, the fuel that boosts and further develops trans-national and trans-regional projects, creating future prospects between cities and regions. It contributes significantly to solidarity and the strengthening of economic, social and territorial cohesion.

The current discussion on the MFF post-2020 proposal and the legislative proposals for the different EU funding instruments for the years to come will provide a unique opportunity to hold a political debate on their implications for the future of cross-border and interregional cooperations and to demonstrate how local and regional authorities can benefit from the new opportunities that digital transformation offers.

Moderator: Martin Guillermo Ramirez, Secretary General, Association of European Border Regions (AEBR)

    Statements by:

    • Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis (FR/EA), CoR Rapporteur on European Territorial Cooperation
    • Bouke Arends (NL/PES), CoR Rapporteur on Cross-border mechanism

Exchange of views with the chairs of the six CoR commissions and Bureau members

Case study: Konrad Bergmeister, CEO of BBT SE, Presentation of the Brenner Base Tunnel project
