140 million Europeans are living in inter-EU border regions, and while the single market has created growth and prosperity, overall in the EU the border regions are lagging behind. There is a great economic potential that is difficult to yield due to different administrative and legal practices. To counter this difference, the European Commission has proposed a new regulation, the so-called European Cross-Border Mechanism (ECBM) which aims to resolve legal and administrative obstacles in a cross-border context, for which ALDE MEP, M. van Miltenburg, was nominated as the rapporteur.
The conference will debate the European Commission’s proposal and discuss both the strengths and potential short-comings by inviting practitioners, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders.
Interpretation will be provided in English, French, German and Dutch.
