EP President signs partnership agreement with public regional TV stations

Met dank overgenomen van Europees Parlement (EP) i, gepubliceerd op donderdag 25 oktober 2018.

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani and President Jyri Kataja-Rahko of the association of 250 regional TV stations (CIRCOM) today signed an agreement of partnership in view of the May 2019 European Elections coverage in regional public media. CIRCOM regional was also represented by Mr Fernando Ojea Secretary-General and Ms Françoise Erb, Deputy Secretary-General. With the signature of this Memorandum of Understanding, the Parliament underlines the importance of regional public service media in informing citizens of the upcoming European elections.

“Regional media play a crucial role in the run-up to the European Elections to link the European decisions to what matters to people locally. I am therefore glad that CIRCOM has expressed their interest to raise awareness of the European Elections campaign. The strong outreach of regional media will be key to inform citizens about how important their vote is to strengthen European democracy, and is also important in the fight against fake news”

The Memorandum of Understanding confirms the strong willingness of the European Parliament and CIRCOM to cooperate with each other on the media coverage of the European Elections, by organising workshops for journalists, fostering cooperation between the regional TV stations Europe-wide, and cooperating in accessing the main debates in the Member States.
