Opening - Kövesi has Parliament’s support as candidate for EU public prosecutor - Hoofdinhoud

President Tajani demanded that the Romanian authorities stop obstructing Laura Codruţa Kövesi’s candidacy to the European public prosecutor’s office.

Laura Codruţa Kövesi has been placed under judicial regime in Romania, banned from leaving the country and cannot make statements to the press, said President Tajani at the opening of the session in Brussels. On behalf of the European Parliament, President Tajani expressed concern and stated that Ms Kövesi continues to have Parliament’s support. The Romanian authorities are requested to cooperate and to not obstruct her candidacy. President Tajani confirmed that he would write to the Romanian authorities to this effect on behalf of European Parliament.

In response to Brunei imposing the death penalty on gay men, President Tajani reiterated that there is no justification for taking anyone’s life and the Parliament is strongly committed to banning the death penalty.

Changes to the agenda

Wednesday

The reports on “Establishing the 'Customs' programme for cooperation in the field of customs” and on “Establishing the instrument for financial support for customs control equipment” will be put to the vote in the April II part-session.

The title of the Council and Commission statements on “EU-China trade relations” is changed to “EU-China relations”.

Thursday

The sitting will start at 08:30 and the votes will start at 11:00.

The vote on the report on the “Implementation and financing of the EU general budget for 2019 in relation to the UK's withdrawal from the Union" is taken out of the agenda.

Three immunity reports by Mr Dzhambazki are put directly to the vote.
