This year we are focusing on the theme of emigration, understood as the phenomenon where people from Eastern European countries leave towards Western Europe in search for economic opportunity and a better life. The goal is to explore the consequences of these choices for the ones who emigrate, as well as for their families and, finally, the society at large in Eastern Europe. Some of these are brain drain, broken families, abandoned children, neglected elders, labor exploitation and human trafficking. Beyond discussing the effects, we plan to also come up with policy ideas to counteract the problem: pro-family policies, government subsidies for low-income families, re-training or adult education and programs to encourage returning and reintegration of returnees.

The other side of the coin is Western Europe who benefits from the cheap labor but then has to deal with the overpopulation and/or criminality often associated with it. ECPM believes there is potential for real solutions and policies being brought forth in organizing a conference like this where experts and politicians offer their ideas based on a rich experience.

Different speakers from all over the EU (Romania, Slovakia, Poland, The Netherlands, etc) and Moldova, will be taking turns in presenting the situation and offering ideas of new policies the governments can implement.

After the conference there will be a free lunch for all participants.
