Opening - June I plenary session

“Once again, Strasbourg is a symbol of renewal”, said President Sassoli i at the opening of the June I plenary session in Strasbourg.

After over fifteen months, Parliament is back in its seat in Strasbourg, added the President. Citizens have been through a dreadful period, and experienced much suffering. Restarting the sessions in Strasbourg is a sign of confidence and hope for everyone. The Parliament has been able to keep doing its work throughout this time and the EU has taken initiatives to protect the lives of its citizens, he underlined.

Through measures such as Next Generation EU, the Resilience and Recovery Facility, rule of law conditionality and the own resources package, Parliament has insisted that we must come out of this crisis more united and more just, protecting the most vulnerable and ensuring those most affected by it are not left behind, stressed President Sassoli.

Changes to the agenda

Monday

The request to apply the urgent procedure (under rule 163) to the Transitional provisions in order to address the impact of the COVID-19 crisis (amendment of Regulation (EU) 2016/1628) will be put to the vote on Monday.

Tuesday

The debate on the Council and Commission statements on the European Parliament’s scrutiny on the ongoing assessment by the Commission and the Council of the national recovery and resilience plans will be taken as third point on Tuesday morning, after the debate on the Commission statement on the state of play of the implementation of the Own Resources roadmap.

The debate on the report by Ms Rodriguez Ramos on 75th and the 76th sessions of the United Nations General Assembly will be taken as the fourth point on Tuesday afternoon after the debate on the statement by the Vice-President of the Commission/High Representative on Human rights and political situation in Cuba.

Requests by committees to start negotiations with Council and Commission

Decisions by committees to enter into inter-institutional negotiations (Rule 72) are published on the plenary website.

If no request for a vote in Parliament on the decision to enter into negotiations is made by Tuesday 12.00 midnight, the committees may start negotiations.
