EP–Council relations: Hungarian Presidency’s initiative for settling disputed matters

The interpretation and implementation of the provisions of the Lisbon Treaty modifying the powers of institutions have raised several issues to be clarified in the relationship between the Council and the European Parliament. The unresolved issues place a significant burden on interinstitutional cooperation, therefore the Hungarian Presidency has worked out a solution to address the situation.

Following the review of disputed matters, under the mandate received from the Council, on behalf of the Hungarian Presidency State Minister for EU Affairs Enikö Györi opened the structured negotiating process with the European Parliament on 6 April in Strasbourg, on the margin of the EP’s plenary session. The aim of the Presidency is to find a solution for as many disputed matters as possible within the shortest time, thereby relieving negotiations on substantial issues.
