Eerste vergadering van het speciale commissie Georganiseerde misdaad, corruptie en witwassen van geld (en) - Hoofdinhoud

Sonia Alfano (ALDE i, IT) was elected chair of the recently established special committee on organised crime, corruption and money laundering, during its first meeting on Tuesday in Strasbourg. Committee members also elected 4 vice-chairs and nominated Salvatore Iacolino (EPP, IT) as rapporteur.

The committee elected the following MEPs as vice-chairs (in election order): Rosario Crocetta (S&D, IT), Rui Tavares (Greens/EFA, PT), Timothy Kirkhope (ECR i, UK) and Søren Bo Sondergaard GUE/NGL i, DK).

After the meeting, newly-elected chair Ms Alfano said: "The special committee will make sure to deliver, in the shortest time possible, a comprehensive action plan to address organised crime and its businesses anywhere in the EU. We shall also take a 'zero tolerance' approach to those who have been aiding and abetting organised crime".

The committee on organised crime, corruption and money laundering (CRIM), within its one-year mandate, will evaluate the extent of organised crime's impact on the EU economy and society and recommend legislative and other measures to enable the EU to respond to these threats at international, European and national levels.

Members will have the power to make on-site visits, hold hearings with EU and national institutions from all over the world and invite representatives of business, civil society and victims’ organisations, and officials, including judges, involved in the daily fight against organised crime, corruption and money laundering.
