Sharing Language for Industry Growth: DGT's LIND-Web Platform

Already a thriving economic sector thanks to a diverse and multilingual European Union, the language industry will benefit from the creation of the Language Industry Web Platform (LIND-Web), created and managed by DG Translation. This project aims to foster a community of interest surrounding the European Language industry, which covers topics in eight main fields:

  • Translation services
  • Interpreting services
  • Subtitling and dubbing services
  • Software localisation and website globalisation services
  • Language technology tools development
  • International conference organisation
  • Language teaching
  • Linguistic consultancy

The idea for the platform originated from a study on the size of the EU language industry [6 MB] published by DG Translation in November 2009. The platform provides access to important information on the industry for language professionals, EU institutions, and industry stakeholders - including associations, universities, and service providers - in order to promote visibility of upcoming reports, and projects.

Using the platform, participants can download studies, tools and documents in an EU language concerning any of these themes to keep abreast of issues and news in the field.

Over time, LIND-Web aims to create a viable space that will increase awareness of other language industry groups' activities, generate statistics to promote a better understanding of the sector and enhance job creation and recognition of the industry. Use the platform to enhance and promote a linguistically dynamic EU!
