The Minister for European Affairs, Mr Wammen, will attend the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg the 12th - 13th of June. It is the last out of nine plenary sessions during the Danish Presidency of the Council.

From January to June the Danish Presidency has participated in 41 debates the European Parliament. This week’s agenda will range from the European Council on the 28th and 29th of June and EU’s multiannual budget, over stronger economic cooperation (Two-Pack) to the legal basis of the Schengen Evaluation Mechanism.

Before departure the Minister for European Affairs stated:

“I am looking forward to participating in the last ordinary plenary session during the Danish Presidency of Council. We have important tasks ahead of us, and we will do our utmost to close the last - but important - issues before we hand over the presidency. I am going to participate in the debate on the coming European Council and EU’s multiannual budget. We are striving hard to get Europe back on track. We are working hard to promote growth and employment in the short run, and at the same time we are focussing closely on implementing necessary reforms to provide the basis for a strong European economy in the long run.”

Three Danish ministers will be travelling to Strasbourg this week. The Minister for Economics and the Interior, Mrs Vestager, and the Minister for Justice, Mr Bødskov, will be in Strasbourg on 12 June 2012. The Minister for Economics and the Interior will participate in the debate on the Two-Pack, while the Minister for Justice will participate in the debate on the legal basis of the Schengen Evaluation Mechanism.

On Wednesday 13 June, the Council Secretariat is hosting a reception on the occasion of the last plenary session in Parliament of the Danish Presidency.

The European Parliament’s plenary session takes place from Monday 11 June to Thursday 14 June 2012.
