EU-Tunisia Association Council, 11/05/2017 - Main results - Hoofdinhoud
The Association Council assessed the progress made in the implementation of the EU-Tunisia privileged partnership and reviewed the steps to come. A joint statement was adopted:
Joint Declaration on the occasion of the EU-Tunisia Association Council of 11 May 2017
"The main thread of our dialogue today has been youth: it is to young people that our efforts should be addressed in the first place. In conjunction with that, we have discussed education, employability, and also participation in public life. We have agreed on the need to develop and promote more dialogue between youth in the European Union and youth in Tunisia." - George Vella, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Malta, representing the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

The Council discussed the priorities of the EU-Tunisia partnership, namely:
support for socio-economic development and trade relations
what the EU-Tunisia partnership means for young people
the issues of migration and mobility
The Maltese Minister for Foreign Affairs, George Vella, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Tunisia, Khemaies Jhinaoui, also discussed the latest political and institutional developments and progress made in the process of democratic transition in Tunisia. They also exchanged views on the situation in Libya and on security and counter-terrorism.
An agreement between the EU and Tunisia on Creative Europe and a financing agreement for a pilot initiative on integrated local development were signed at the Association Council.
