REGI extraordinary meeting - 27 September 2018

Met dank overgenomen van EP-Commissie Regionale ontwikkeling (REGI) i, gepubliceerd op donderdag 27 september 2018.

On Thursday, 27 September 2018, the REGI Members held an extraordinary committee meeting to debate four legislative proposals for the next generation of cohesion policy (2021-2027). Horizon Europe will be the Union’s main instrument for funding research and innovation in 2021-2027. It aims at building on the achievements of the current Horizon 2020 programme, and keeping the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation.

The EGF was set up in 2007 to provide support to workers made redundant as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns caused by globalisation and whose redundancies have a significant adverse impact on the regional or local economy. EU involvement through the EGF complements national measures, in order to re-integrate dismissed workers by offering them a range of tailored measures that improve their employability.

The InvestEU Programme builds on the EFSI, also known as 'Juncker Plan', which has been in place since mid-2015, and has been extended until the end of 2020. The InvestEU Programme will run from 2021 to 2027. This Programme is of particular relevance to the REGI committee.

Mechanism to resolve legal and administrative obstacles in a cross-border context - the Commission is proposing a mechanism under which the competent authorities could agree that the legal and administrative provisions of one Member State might be applied to a cross-border project.
