Ensuring young people’s access to culture and supporting creativity - important priorities for the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council - Hoofdinhoud

On 26 March 2019, the Minister of Culture and National Identity, Valer-Daniel Breaz, opened the Young Creative Generations conference, organized at the headquarters of the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union, in Brussels.

The conference placed an emphasis on the importance of encouraging young people’s creativity at European level, as a prerequisite for facilitating their insertion on the labour market, and also for enhancing social inclusion, active citizenship and civic responsibility.

From this perspective, ensuring access to culture, especially for young people from disadvantaged categories, represents an important objective in transforming the European Union into a space of equal access to opportunities.

“The Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU i aims to ensure a continuity of the support measures at European level: during formal education years, it is necessary to strengthen the synergy between education and culture by promoting arts and cultural expressions, leading to the development of children and young people’s creativity and their innovation potential. At the same time, after finishing school, we need EU measures to strengthen entrepreneurship in the cultural and creative sectors, as well as projects and initiatives aimed at ensuring digital literacy and critical thinking”, said the Minister of Culture and National Identity, Valer-Daniel Breaz.The results of the conference will provide input for the Young Creative Generations Council Conclusions, to be adopted by the Council of Ministers on 23 May 2019.
