The purpose of the hearing is to analyze the newest developments regarding the straying of the democratic principles in Romania.
Why are the Romanians protesting and which are the main abuses they complain about?
European leaders, Romanian politicians, civil society representatives and journalists aim to establish a dialogue which has been refused until now.
The meeting will be hosted by Hannes Swoboda, leader of the S&D Group in the EP and Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the ALDE Group in the EP.
Our special guests are the co-presidents of the main opposition alliance in Romania, the Social Liberal Union (USL) :

Two prominent NGO representatives - Cristian Pârvulescu (president of Pro Democracy Association) and Victor Alistar (executive director of Transparency International Romania), as well as leading journalist Răzvan Dumitrescu and Liviu Voinea, PhD in Economics, will participate in this debate.
De Progressieve Alliantie van Socialisten en Democraten (S&D) is de sociaaldemocratische fractie in het Europees Parlement i. De fractie is ontstaan als een alliantie tussen de Partij van de Europese Sociaal-Democraten i (PES) en de Italiaanse Democratische Partij.
De fractie van de Progressieve Alliantie van Socialisten en Democraten (S&D) heeft 141 leden afkomstig uit 26 lidstaten, en is daarmee de op een na grootste fractie in het Europees Parlement. Op het hoogtepunt in 1999 hadden de Sociaal Democraten 233 zetels in het Europees Parlement.
