The world of work is undergoing massive changes. Globalisation, technological innovations, demographic shifts, migration and climate change will fundamentally challenge the traditional way in which work is conceived, organised and governed in the EU and beyond. These changes bring uncertainty about the future, generating both fears and hopes. Will they result in more and better jobs or lead to more unemployment and underemployment? Will they advance social justice and progress, or take us backwards? Ultimately European societies will have to respond to these global challenges and shape the world of work they want.
This joint high-level conference is part of the International Labor Organisation (ILO) global initiative on the future of work built upon the views of social partners and civil society.

Het Europees Economisch en Sociaal Comité (EESC) werd in 1957 door het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Economische Gemeenschap i opgericht als raadgevend orgaan om de belangen van de verschillende economische en maatschappelijke organisaties in de Europese Unie te vertegenwoordigen. Het EESC wordt voorgezeten door Christa Schweng.
Dit is een internationale organisatie van de Verenigde Naties i die regeringen, werkgevers en werknemers bij elkaar brengt om over de hele wereld goede arbeidsomstandigheden te realiseren. Bij de IAO zijn circa 185 landen aangesloten. Het is geen internationale vakbond, maar een organisatie die samenwerking tussen de betrokken partijen bevordert.
De IAO heeft vier strategische doelstellingen:

-het bevorderen van het recht op werk

-het verbeteren van de kans om werk te krijgen én te behouden voor zowel mannen als vrouwen
-
-het versterken van de effectiviteit van sociale bescherming voor iedereen
-
-het versterken van de sociale dialoog tussen overheid, werkgevers en werknemers
