The European Commission is organising the 4th Annual Convention of the European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion, one of the flagship initiatives of the Europe 2020 strategy, in Brussels on 20-21 November 2014.
The first day of the conference will mark the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child (20 November 1989) and will be opened by Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament and Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills & Labour Mobility.
The main theme in the plenary session will be 'Taking stock on the range of policies contributing to the poverty target' and will be discussed by Frank Vandenbroucke, former Belgian Minister of Employment & Education, Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of Italy and Heather Roy, President of the Social Platform.
Robert Anderson, Head of the Living Conditions and Quality of Life Unit at Eurofound, will chair the workshop on 'Social protection against the risk of long-term care dependency'.
Daphne Nathalie Ahrendt, Research Manager in the same unit, will be presenting the project 'Housing in Europe - consequences of poor accommodation' and be a rapporteur at the workshop on Strengthening housing security through preventing evictions.
During the conference, it will be possible to visit the Eurofound information stand and find out more about the latest research projects.

Eurofound voorziet regeringen, werkgevers, vakbonden en de Europese Commissie i van bevindingen, kennis en advies afkomstig van onafhankelijk en vergelijkend onderzoek.
